WonHundred Word Wednesdays

He hadn't meant to scare the child, but what else could he expect? He was a beast. The wreck had damaged him beyond repair years before.

He had heard her crying and the sound broke his heart. He could have left her and returned to his home. He had every right.

But she reminded him of the daughter he had lost. What would she have thought if he’d just left the little girl lost in the woods? He pulled out the doll his daughter loved so much and handed it to her before calling the police to find her parents.

Now see what everyone else came up with!

WonHundred Word Wednesdays

Most vivid amongst the memories of his hometown was the old tire swing where she used to tell him stories. He had known her since the day she moved in. She’d been so happy and full of life, excited to experience new adventures.

They would take turns pushing each other on the swing and shared tales of castles, knights, and dragons.

He could still see where their names had been carved into the tree. This is where he’d proposed. This is where they’d brought their children to play each summer. He laid the rose in the tire and walked away.

Now see what everyone else came up with!

I had the opportunity to go to Ranches Academy in Eagle Mountain. I joined several other authors and we each took a different grade level. I was in with the first graders.  I read excerpts from a couple of my books, and then I had them help me write a story. Let me tell you, they have some awesome imaginations!

For those of you that can't read my writing (which is probably everyone), here is the story:

Once there was a dragon named, Henry. he wanted to burn down a school. Mrs. Scherer was a knight and she wanted to stop the dragon. She pulled out her sword and shield. She went out to the playground and the dragon followed her. Mrs. Scherer jumped on the dragon and flew to the caves. There was cold off on the ground in the cave. Mrs. Scherer hit Henry with her sword and slew the dragon! She took all the gold from the cave and carried it back to Ranches Academy. She shared it with all of the children and teachers. She also built a huge swimming pool with lots of water slides.

I could have spent hours talking with the kids. They had lots of questions and they were so excited that I was a "real author." I can't wait until my next assembly!

WonHundred Word Wednesdays

She had found something that would mean she'd never be poor again—but there was a catch. Something she thought nearly impossible.

The will her grandfather had left had been lost for years. Everyone had fought over where his millions would go, but no one had thought to look in his accounts out of state.

She had laughed in delight when she saw her name next to the whole estate—that was until she noticed the expiration date for collecting it. She had to find a husband and get home. It was the only way she could collect the funds.

Now go check out the rest!

Salt Lake Comic Con 2014

Holy awesomeness. That's how I describe Comic Con. Okay, so I saw more skin than I ever want to see again. And the crowds are massive and confusing. But the experience we had was priceless.

Wednesday we all met together to help set up the booth. We got everything how we wanted it and then rushed off to make sure we didn't have to pay more for parking.

Thursday: It's showtime! Crowds started pouring into the con. We handed out a thousand bookmarks and enjoyed talking to people. We had a contest where people could take a picture of the booth and post it on our page, tweet about us, or share the link. The winner would receive a $20 gift card to Amazon.  We got some really fun photos.

Don't blink!

I was so exhausted and sore by the time I got done, I hobbled over to the food court at the City Creek mall and then headed up to my hotel room. I should have written all night. I should have gotten things done. But instead I watched Disney Channel and fell asleep.

Early Friday morning, after giving up on sleeping, I wandered downstairs for breakfast. The omelet, hash browns, and toast were just what I needed for a full day of talking and selling.

Friday night Jenna and I went to dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I had some yummy pasta and she had a giant burrito (most went as leftovers). Afterward, I went back to the hotel to eat my yummy cheesecake. Again, I should have written, but I was stuck watching Disney before falling asleep.

Saturday I was still full from the night before, so I grabbed a few snacks, chapstick, and water from the hotel store before heading over.

It. Was. Packed. You could barely move down the aisles as people tried to get from one place to the next. There were lots of families there and we made some great connections with booksellers, librarians, and homeschool group. We also got interviewed by two blogs and the newspaper out here in Eagle Mountain.

Was it crazy? yes. Very. I had my kids come and had to get special permission to get them in (helps to have a vendor badge). People yelled at them because they got to come in and no one else did (the building was at capacity and we had to wait for others to leave first).

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. We had the chance to talk to people from all over about our book series. It was amazing and fun and tiring and the best form of marketing I've participated in.

Seriously the coolest shirt EVER.

WonHundred Word Wednesdays

The fire was getting closer, and the heat was overpowering. The crackling of the old wood accentuated the urgency I felt to leave the building. It didn’t matter though. I couldn’t leave until I had the locket in hand.

There it was. I snatched it and held on tight as I ran for the exit.

Most would think I was crazy to stay for something as silly as a locket, but then they had no idea what this one could do.

I opened it, yelled “Go!” and felt the familiar pull as it transported me to a strange, new world.

______

For the record, this is totally unlike me. Fire scares me to death.
