He was terrified of small spaces and she knew he had to be panicking. She’d tried to stop them from locking the box, but their laughter drowned out her protests.
She ran home and headed straight for the garage. Wiping away the tears, she looked through boxes to find a crowbar or hammer—anything to get the box open.
The boys were gone when she arrived back in the cemetery. The screaming and kicking inside had subsided at some point. Knocking softly, she assured him that everything would be okay.
She was met with nothing but silence. He was gone.
