Why shouldn't they help themselves, after the way they'd been treated? The king didn’t care for them at all. They’d been slaves for decades, with never a thank you or reward.
But then the king’s quest had paid off. They stood at the entrance of a cave that he had been wanting to find for years. True, this should’ve all been his, but he wasn’t here. He would never know what was actually in this cave.
As the army prepared to load up the treasure, the servants grabbed what they could and escaped through a back tunnel. They were free.
