As she searched, her movements were frantic. No. This couldn’t be. She had done everything correctly. She’d read and reread the instructions countless times.

But something had gone horribly wrong. At first he smiled, but she noticed a pain behind his eyes that hadn’t been there before. Then he coughed and gasped before collapsing.

There. She found it and her breath caught. The pages had stuck together. She’d performed a curse of death.
