There he was. I had avoided this restaurant since our awful breakup. I stood in the back of the line, waiting for my turn, but wanting to run away and go somewhere else. Oh, good. I sighed in relief. He had gone off his shift and the new cashier was one of my best friends. I could do this. I would just grab my food and go. I ordered my food, just as her phone rang and she stepped away. My heart was in my throat when I realized who would take over. Him. “Would you like fries with that?”
