He watched, helpless, as the door closed behind her. He’d tried to get her back, but she had too many reasons why she wanted to leave.

He turned and watched his little girl playing, oblivious of what had just happened. How would he tell her that her mommy was too busy to come home?

“Daddy, play?” Her big blue eyes stared up at him.

He glanced back at the door, and swallowed hard. There was time to worry about that later. For now, he’d be the best daddy he could. If his girl wanted a tea party, she’d get it.

Yes, I'm a week early, but for a good reason!! Every day I'll be doing a giveaway, so you need to be watching for it.

Bacon sandwiches always reminded her of the summer of her sophomore year. Her parents had forced her family to go on vacation, and that’s all her mom had packed for them to eat. It was hot, crowded, and she had to listen to awful music.

But there’d been that guy. He seemed to be at every stop as they traveled through the park. She knew it was fate, but she’d had to prove it to him.

“Here you go, honey. Just how you like it.”

She smiled. Even after all these years, he remembered the first lunch they ate together.

WonHundred Wednesdays

There was a legend about the well in the garden, but I didn't believe it. Magic was something made up. Something used to scare little kids.

I laughed as I looked down inside to try and catch my reflection. What I saw stopped me. It was an old book that sat in the bucket.

I looked around to see if anyone was watching, then turned the crank. The pulley protested, not having been used for decades. Once it was up high enough, I pulled the book out and immediately dropped it.

The book was alive, begging me to open it.

The old photos made her conscious of her age, of how much time had passed. She pulled her sweater closer to her and looked out at the gardens of her estate. It had been too long since she’d walked through them. Today that’d change.

The front door opened and she waited anxiously to see who had come to visit. She heard giggles and it lifted her heart.

She smiled as her great-grandchildren ran into the room. Their smiles reminded her of her own children. They would bring life into the estate again. Something that had been needed for years.

Under normal circumstances he would speak his mind, but, with a gun against his head, he chose to keep his mouth shut. It wasn’t that it would do much good anyway. They’d already made their decision. He was the weak link in the chain according the chief, and that was grounds for death.

He swallowed and waited for the final verdict. He had given some very valuable information that could help him survive, but the chief was taking his time getting back to the group. The mocking insults he had to endure made the time drag on.

The phone rang.

As the policeman pulled back the sheet, she knew immediately that it wasn’t her husband. She looked up at the officer and shook her head before stepping back.

The police turned away from her and continued checking the scene for evidence, clearly dismissing her.

The woman hurried away from the scene and pulled out her phone. The man had promised perfect results, but clearly he had missed his mark.

She smiled at the response she got as she climbed into her sleek black car. He’d found the target and would be making his move. The police would be busy tonight.
