She hadn’t realized she'd buried her memories of her teenage years until she hit the final interview.

The spotlight was hot on her face, and she squinted to see what the woman’s face looked like. They’d been at this for hours, and she’d hoped she’d have the job already.

The woman leaned forward. “Come on. Surely you know what you did the with box your father gave you.”

“I …” She paused again. Suddenly the details of a day so many years before hit her. It had been raining and her dad’s voice was urgent. She looked up. “I burned it.”
